Don't have any more children...

Got an e-mail today from a guy who's spent considerable time putting together arguments for Mother Earth being relieved of the masses of men she's currently supporting. The author wrote to say he'd quoted me. Reading his book feels like peering into a monkey cage.

He describes his work:

[This book] investigates an extreme fringe of U.S. Protestantism ...that use Old Testament "fruitful" verses to support natalist ideas explicitly promoting higher fecundity.

...This book argues that natalism is inappropriate as a Christian application of Scripture, especially since rich populations’ total footprints are detrimental to biodiversity and to human welfare.

Yes yes, biodiversity...

The Hellish revolution...

This Hispanic English prof has a few things to say about the sexual insanity the U.S. is forcing on the rest of the world. A Yale classics grad who grew up in the household of his Puerto Rican mom and her white North American lesbian partner, he compares the feminist/LGBT imperialists of these United States to the communists of the Iron Curtain, concluding that feminists and queers are doing more damage across the world than communism ever did.

And if you think about it, the body count supports his judgment. Russian, Chinese, Cambodian, and North Korean Communists slaughtered about 140,000,000 of their fellow countrymen, whereas feminists have slaughtered 1,355,023,647 unborn babies, and counting...

Ask us your questions...

In a few short months, and a couple of long ones, there's going to be a gathering of old friends at Clearnote Church, Bloomington called the Homecoming. You might think you know everything about Clearnote, but don't be too sure. Take some time to watch the following video and ask us your obvious questions. You can send them here. Jon and Nathan are committed to getting you the not-so-obvious answers to your obvious questions. And, who knows, we may all learn something along the way.

Post removed...

The post on Federal Vision/Covenant Renewal and the marks of the church has been removed. I'm not sure why I think it is right to do so but I do think it is right and have done so. May God lead us to serve His Church wisely and carefully. With love,

Thanksgiving to God on November 26, 2015...

On this Thanksgiving Day, let all who love Jesus Christ give thanks to the God above all gods, the Only true God, God Almighty Who is the Lord of Hosts.

[Thanksgiving for the lovingkindness of God
to all creation, but particularly to His People
who have placed their faith in His Son, our
Lord Jesus Christ, and who live to please Him.]

Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good...

The diversionary tactics of Desiring God Ministries...

dianaephesus2.jpgThe words of the heathen poet (Juvenal) are very true: “What shame can she, who wears a helmet, show, Her sex deserting?”

- John Calvin

Despite the fact that it has been shared over 10,000 times, it is easy to see the problems with the recent Desiring God piece promoting rebellion against God's Creation Order of sexuality. It's not quite so easy to see what Desiring God was trying to accomplish with this piece. Partly that is because of the editor's note that precedes the piece, reassuring readers that Desiring God hasn't gone soft. It's also hard to understand the piece because many of us don't realize its larger context—namely, the intense blowback Desiring God and John Piper received in connection with their teaching on sexuality.

First, the editor's note...

I don't want it...

Desiring God just posted an article about Holly Holm. She is the woman who beat up Ronda Rousey on Saturday night during an Ultimate Fighting Championship match and sent Rousey to the hospital. One might think that, given what the Scriptures teach and Desiring God's commitment to the Biblical view of women, that this article would be decrying the fact that Americans get their jollies by two women beating each other into a bloody pulp in the ring. But no. Instead this article praises Holly Holm for her humility and selflessness.

The article cites Proverbs 16:18, "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." Ronda Rousey was the arrogant, loud-mouthed, braggart, while Holm is the humble woman who overcame all odds. The author ends his article by comparing Holm to Jesus...

"Glory" to be released next Tuesday...

After two years of recording silence, the Everlasting Word Band is excited to announce the release of its third album, Glory, on November 24th...

Precisely what is paedocommunion and why does Calvin condemn it...

...why should we offer poison instead of life-giving food to our tender children?

                                             - John Calvin condemning infant communion

Under another post, a commenter entered into the comment field three paragraphs of text written by the Rev. Dr. Rob Rayburn promoting infant communion (commonly referred to as “paedocommunion”). Dr. Rayburn’s promotion of this practice—condemned by Protestants and Roman Catholics alike at the time of the Reformation—is a good example of fashion replacing Biblical doctrine and theological precision. Men who have climbed on the “paedocommunion” bandwagon have believed Dr. Rayburn’s assurance that “none of our authorities favored the practice or, in most cases, ever discussed it.”

Rayburn's point in saying this is not to warn readers that our Reformed fathers condemned paedocommunion, but rather to dismiss their condemnation under the reasoning that they had not given the practice proper consideration. After all, “in most cases” they had not “ever discussed it."

What Dr. Rayburn writes is not true. John Calvin discussed infant communion in his commentaries and Institutes, considering many arguments in favor of the practice while consistently condemning it.

So then, here are the first two sentences of the three paragraphs by Dr. Rayburn in defense of paedocommunion...

Ben Carson on the murder of Terry Schiavo...

Questioned about the Terry Schiavo case (in which a woman was starved to death by her husband), presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson responded:

I think it was much ado about nothing.

This is the problem with doctors. Being intimate with suffering and death, familiarity breeds contempt. Immanuel Kant spoke of this in his Lectures on Ethics:

In England, no butcher, surgeon or doctor serves on the twelve-man jury, because they are already inured to death.

Shortly before she died, my brother-in-Christ David Curell was arrested trying to get to Terry's bedside to feed her. Ben Carson wouldn't have done that. Poor shrunken small Ben.

The god who is not...

The miniature book is titled Life's Lil Pleasures v. 2, and here are three of them...

We have treasure to impart...

For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves...  - 2Corinthians 4:6, 7

Since the onslaught of multiculturalism, the humanities have been in a death spiral. What are the humanities? They are the disciplines that focus on human culture, including languages, philosophy, religion, music, theatre, history, law, and literature.

Last month in the New Criterion, Mark Bauerlein, an English prof at Emory, made an effort to to show why recent efforts to reverse the decline have failed. Rather than selling the great works of Western Civilization for their beauty and wisdom, they're being sold as a means to help men...
