The slaughter of women and children by Army Staff Sgt Robert Bales...

Every treatment of Afghan President Hamut Karzai I've read in the New Yorker for years, now, has led to my deep conviction the man is venal and wicked, and our support of his presidency is a mistake of unfathomable proportions. If you're careful not to look at the sidebar pics, read this article on the recent slaughter of Pashtun women and children in a village near Kandahar by Army Staff Sergeant Robert Bales. It's what hasn't been said, but must be. President Karzai and his cronies are stooges for the Taliban and rivers of opium flow through them.

That's the moral cause for which we command our men to shed their blood. (TB, w/thanks to David W.)
