Making a mockery of the presidency and freedom...

The LORD of hosts has planned it, to defile the pride of all beauty, To despise all the honored of the earth. - Isaiah 23:9

Yesterday, President Obama couldn't find the time to accept the invitation to help commemorate the 150th anniversary of President Lincoln's Gettysburg Address over in Gettysburg, a couple minutes flight from the White House.

Yet look at what he found time for today: awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom to President Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, and Gloria Steinem (pics here).

    It's even worse:

President Obama couldn't attend an event to mark the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address Tuesday, because it "didn't work schedule-wise," a top Obama aide said....Instead, Obama opted to charm executives attending The Wall Street Journal CEO Council at the Four Seasons Hotel, Washington, D.C. — where a reference to Abraham Lincoln’s address didn't merit a mention in Obama's remarks.

Yuck. Just yuck.

It's not like an African-American would have any special reason to honor Lincoln or anything.

Well, Mr. Obama didn't have any ancestors freed by the Civil War, any more than I did. He had both Southern and Northern ancestors, though, and so perhaps did have relatives who lost property on account of the Emancipation Proclamation--- I don't know. His maternal ancestry is at: http://www.gencircles.com/users/kristinhopper/4/data/13053

His wife and children have such ancestors, however.

+++ for Doug and Jane.

Regarding the awards, look at the list of recipients and tell me that previous Presidents didn't use the award to make political points and pay back political obligations.  It's been a charade ever since LBJ at least.

Kinda like the Nobel Peace Prize, I think.
