Andrew Marin is a wolf...

Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them. Therefore be on the alert, remembering that night and day for a period of three years I did not cease to admonish each one with tears. (Acts 20:28-31)

In response to my warning against the heresies promoted by InterVarsity and its publishing house, InterVarsity Press, a man commented that he'd been involved with InterVarsity and now has a sodomite son who has found a church where he can be at home as a gay man. He went on to comment that he's read IVP's Love Is an Orientation by Andrew Marin and found it a "balm to (his) soul," so he recommended it to our readers.

Marin's book is preciously wrong and one day Marin and his publisher will give an answer for seducing many away from repentance for their bondage to sexual perversion. I responded to this man...

who signed his comment on Baylyblog "concerned pastor" as follows:

Dear "Concerned Pastor,"

Marin's book is a very thinly-veiled betrayal of the souls of sodomites bound by the chains of sexual perversion. It should depress--not encourage--you, and I say that after several decades of being involved in calling lesbian and gays to freedom in Christ.

Go to Marin's "Love Is an Orientation" site and look at his promotion, for instance, of the sodomite advocacy group, One Wheaton. (One Wheaton identifies themselves as "A Community of LGBTQs & Allies of Wheaton College, Illinois.")

How can anyone know the holiness of God without which no man will enter Heaven and promote One Wheaton? It's wicked conniving, and it's a perfect pair with Marin himself who, like One Wheaton, is carefully wrong and therefore utterly decadent.

The reason IVP published Andrew Marin's Love Is an Orientation is because it cops a posture halfway between God and Satan. And concerning sodomy, that's precisely how far Evangelicals are willing to go just now. So Marin's the man of the hour. But his flavor will grow tepid as Evangelicals stray further and further from the Lord Jesus Christ and His Word.

Yes, your son is a committed and self-affirming sodomite. Many many many of us have sons and daughters and fathers and mothers and brothers and sisters and aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews who are committed sodomites. Likely Lot did, too.

It's tragic for all of us. You're just one among a host of pastors and elders and deacons and Titus 2 women suffering this great tragedy.

Turn away from Andrew Marin. He's the siren song of death. Look at his web site and what he promotes and you'll see he's no balm for anyone's soul, but the hiss of the serpent that's the prelude to sin and death.
It's not accidental that the father of a committed sodomite who's found a church where he can avoid repenting for his perversion calls Andrew Marin's Love Is an Orientation a "balm for (his) soul."

Marin's book, in spectacularly obvious fashion, is missing the call to repentance. It's no wonder then, that there is no hint of holiness.

Jesus called us to love everyone, not just heterosexuals.

My dear Peter, What better way to love someone than to warn him that he is headlong on a path to eternal destruction????

2 Timothy 4:2-4

For the time will come when they will no longer endure sound doctrine, but after their own LUSTS shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Romans 1:21-32

Because that, when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was DARKENED.

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

Wherefore God also GAVE THEM UP to uncleaness through the LUSTS of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

Who changed the TRUTH of GOD into a LIE, and worshipped and served the creature more than the creator, who is blessed forever. AMEN.

For this cause God GAVE THEM UP unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

And likewise the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their ERROR which was meet.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God GAVE THEM OVER TO A REPROBATE MIND, to do those things which are not convenient;

Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetnous, maliceiousness, full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity, whisperers,

Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, INVENTORS of EVIL THINGS, disobedient to parents,

Withoutunderstanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

Who knowing the judgment of God, that which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same things, but have pleasure in them that do them.

"My dear Peter, What better way to love someone than to warn him that he is headlong on a path to eternal destruction????"

Jesus knew a better way.

Really? You mean Jesus did not call folks to Repentance?

Is Luke 13:3 not in your Bible? How about Matt 9:13 or Matt 11:20-22?

>Jesus knew a better way.

You don't appear to know Him.

Gagnon responds.

Brown likes him even if he is hard to pin down. Marin says he lives, talks, walks and smells like Jesus.

>>Brown likes him...

Brown's all about grace so of course he loves Andrew Marin. No call to repentance so what's not to like?

And if you want to know what a man like Brown would like about Marin, read this statement by PC(USA) seminary prof Robert Gagnon taken from the end of his long review of Marin (that Ethan has kindly linked above).

Marin is closer to a Pharisee than to Jesus in his book because he aligns himself with the Pharisaic view that one cannot both proclaim that homosexual practice is wrong and at the same time reach out in love to those engaging in homosexual practice. Where he differs from the Pharisees is only over the question of which of the two supposed alternatives the church should pick. Whereas the Pharisees gave up the loving outreach and kept the demand, Marin proposes that the church give up the proclamation of the demand and keep the outreach. Jesus called his followers to wed the two: love and demand, demand and love. That’s why he could define discipleship as taking up one’s cross, denying oneself, and losing one’s life for his sake and for the sake of the kingdom of God that he proclaimed and enacted.

Marin for his part operates with a worldly definition of love that differs little from the notion of tolerance—which, when practiced toward immoral conduct, the authors of Scripture regard as a vice rather than a virtue (Rev 2:2, 20; cf. Ps 101:5; Mic 6:11).

This is where we find the PCA today. Steve Brown is a PCA pastor, teaches at Reformed Seminary (Orlando), and he loves Andrew Marin's take on ministering to sodomites. Robert Gagnon is PC(USA), teaches at Pittsburgh Seminary, and condemns Andrew Marin's take on ministering to sodomites as the hiss of the snake it is.

Don't they say every institution becomes the thing it was founded to oppose?

fabulous comment.

Thanks, I'll let God be the judge of that.

Peter, you can know the mind of God through His Word, which is unambiguous on the subjects of homosexuality as well as calling men to repentance. It's worth noting that Christ talked about Hell a lot--it's a real place and real people are going there every day because wicked men refuse to call men to repentance, preferring instead the applause of the world today.

Mr. Marin tries to talk around this, but at the end, as you say, God will be the judge of that, and it will not be pretty for those who spread the heresy that God's character can somehow be divorced from the way in which He presents Himself; not as lover or wife, but as Father and Husband.

Can we all agree to this?

God doesn't write books. The people that write books claiming to be the word of God do so with their own thoughts, hopes, fantasies, and opinions. No one speaks for God.

God doesn't write books?! I can think of 66 obvious exceptions to that statement.

As for your contention that people who claim to write the word of God are actually speaking for themselves and that no one speaks for God, check out 2 Peter 1:20-21.

"But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, for no prophey was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God."

"prophecy" of course, not "prophey." God seems determined to break me of my grammatical pride.

It's correct that no one speaks for God but God--who of course has done a wonderful job in His Word.

Andrew Marin objects to being called a wolf. But rather than engage here, he's using the stilted world of Twitter.

Funny, that.
