Make Applesauce Day...
by David and Tim Bayly on October 19, 2011 - 3:20pm
Today was Make Applesauce Day in our kitchen. Six bushels of apples cut, cooked, and run through the food mill by four generations including my mother, my wife, our three daughters, and nine of our grandchildren. Daughter Michal Crum took the pic and I pulled it off Google+.
And although there was already lots of naturally-occurring sugar in the apples, they added lots of white refined stuff as well. (TB w/thanks to Michal)

Yum. Applesauce for another year!
My wife and her mother have a big applesauce day each year, Macintoshes and Cortlands are our favorite. My wife goes easy on the sugar -- tart and yummy. And the kids and I eat all the peels. Dee-licious!
Wow! Six bushels! Impressive! "Her arms are [indeed] strong for her tasks!" I remember MaryLee teaching a bunch of us ladies how to make applesauce years ago with a little Foley food mill. Helen Rasmusen and I later made about two bushels-worth, and I think we used a KitchenAid mill--with, as I recall, seven children running around at that time! Thank you for sharing this. Happy memories being made.
Ah... such fun. We've had one "Make Applesauce Day" already, and another is due. A fun read for the kids before this is "And Rain Makes Applesauce". I have not seen a copy for years,as it was out of print. Much of the narration is silly rhyme, but if you watch the pictures you see what happens. It's been out of print a while, and I believe is now back in print. Note the spelling of "Appplesauce" rather than "Apple Sauce"...

Reallly?
Love,
Really... if you look it up the other way you get something different I believe... took me a while. Much like "Applacres" rather than "Apple Acres"
With my apologies... it pays to check. Amazon now "auto-corrects" your entry which helps you to arrive at the proper book. Again, my apologies.
Dear Kim,
No need to say "sorry." Did you note the extra 'l' in really?
Love,
