"I am straight. Homosexuality=death. I choose life."

If you don't let the putrid pus of God-hatred perpetually oozing from the New York Times sidetrack you, here's an account of a godly man following in Augustine's footsteps, but with a slightly different prayer: "O Lord, give me chastity. Now!"

Having been out of the "queer theory" loop, I found this interesting for a number of reasons.

1. By saying that gender and sexuality are social constructs, the cutting edge homosexual movement has just agreed with us. They've admitted they aren't "born this way."

2. The gay community loves the narrative that goes "You're so opposed to homosexuality because you're really gay. You have a secret inclining to homosexuality and you are loathing yourself by being anti-gay." Now the narrative is turned on its head. "He never was really gay. He was always a closet fundamentalist Christian. In being anti-Christian, he was really just loathing himself."

3. We need to pray for this man.

My only question is... Do words like "straight" really do much in this situation? I mean, I am chaste and celibate, and I chose life as well, by not giving in to my homosexual temptations. But I'm not attracted to women in the slightest, and I would not not consider myself heterosexual at all. Is being straight a requirement? I have never really gotten a straight answer (pun intended) from the various Christians to whom I've asked this question.

Dear Jay,

I'm working on a response and have pulled this one for improvement, after my wife's good redirection of it.

Love,

Haha. Thanks. I know I have a history of obnoxious comments here, so I wasn't trying to trick anyone. It's a question that I've been grappling with, especially as I'm getting older and a lot of my brothers and sisters in Christ (who have never struggled with same-gender attractions) are getting married and being blessed with children. I'm trying to find my place, and not too many folks are willing to answer these sorts of questions. Thank you greatly for your time.

Dear Jay,

I've now worked to answer your question and placed that work on our main page, here:
