A definite case of #2 is the very, very rare instance of when the anesthesia appears (to the anesthesiologist) to be working but the patient is aware and *feeling* everything, though unable to communicate this in any way.
I would consider volunteering for the sudy. I received propofol for a minor procedure last year and I can tell you, I understand fully now why someone could become addicted to it.
