(Tim) Several readers have written asking what happened to the comment feed on the left side of the main page? The short answer is that David and I pulled this option from our TypePad template.
So no, it's not your browser causing the problem; the feed is gone.

Just out of curiosity, why? I actually found it rather handy when following different threads.
@Don: Same here.
I'll pile on there too. I found it useful.
Ich auch. Me too. Yo tambien.
Agreed.
Tim
Have you considered that not having the comment feed could lengthen our response time when Darryl Heart posts again?
Don,
I think Darryl has taken to showcasing his rotten vegetation via his own blog: http://oldlife.org/2010/04/10/has-president-obama-been-reading-the-baylys/
Still, the potential is there. And when you think of the lives that could be ruined in those precious few minutes before we know he's back...I think Tim should restore the comment feed.
Perhaps it is a desire to have people look at posts that don't necessarily engender heated debate?
It was helpful for me, too.
Dear Readers,
It's understandable that the comment feed was useful. I'll let my brother, David, respond to your requests for its return.
Love,
Dear Friends,
Tim and I pulled the comment list for three reasons:
First, it tended to give prominence to chronic opponents of the blog. I felt this was unfortunate.
Second, comment lists seem to elevate the visibility of debate, raising the temperature and increasing the vitriol level of the blog.
Third, despite our desire to have pastoral give-and-take on the blog--and I'm sure you're aware Tim does much more interaction in the comments here than most bloggers--I've come to the conclusion that lengthy comment veins usually depart from the point of the original post and often detract from it. In particular, they tend to elevate the comments of drive-by critics such as the pastor who recently commented on the Keller/homosexuality/preaching post. I'm simply unwilling to give such men prominence of any sort on this blog.
Tim and I have considered moderating comments, but would prefer not to do that. We've also considered putting ground rules for commenters in a prominent place on the blog, and that's something we'll probably do soon.
Finally, it is possible to subscribe to comment feeds. You can find the form for doing so at the top of the comment section of each post. This might be worth a try for those interested in the comments on particular posts.
Sorry about the change.
Love in Christ,
David
I hate to be a bother about this - I would prefer to subscrive to the comments feed quite often. But I can't seem to do that - whenever I click on the link, all I get is an html page of the comments, there is no way to sign up.
Kamilla
Kamilla,
The link is to an RSS feed. You have to subscribe in a feed reader--like Google Reader. If you don't normally use a reader, you can set one up to push new posts (comments, in this case) to your email. But I highly recommend using a reader--or at least trying it out.
Warmly,
Huh?
Are you talking about something like Bloglines?
That gives me new posts, but doesn't subscribe me to the comment feed.
Can you email me with instructions? Unless others would benefit from having the info here . . .
